August 2017 Superintendent Message
The Chariton Community School District has been busy all summer preparing for the 2017-2018 school year and we are anxious to get it started. Back to school time is always an exciting time of year for us here at CCSD!
We have implemented a new format for our CCSD monthly newsletters using the software, Constant Contact. The advantage of this software is the ability for individuals to “opt in or out” to receive the communications. This option will help the district to keep a more accurate correspondence email list. At any time, you may “unsubscribe” at the bottom of the email. Or, you can join the list through our Facebook page or through the website. We hope you enjoy the new format.
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications – Applications are now available on line through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, at registration, on the CCSD website, and have been emailed.
Registration – Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 3, 2017 for REGISTRATION! We will be in the high school cafeteria all day to help you with registration! Join us!
Back to School Bash—We have scheduled our annual “Back to School Bash” for Monday, August 21. All of the students and their families are encouraged to come to school to meet teachers, find classrooms, get acquainted with schedules, and see friends. More information regarding the Back to School Bash is located HERE.
PPEL Elections – The Physical Plant and Equipment levy will be up for re-election on September 12, 2017 along with the 2017 School Board elections. The PPEL is funded with a combination of property and income tax. The money collected is limited in uses. It can only be used on construction, improvements, repairs to our physical plant, along with our transportation fleet and technology. The PPEL levy is a continuation of a current levy that is in place. It is NOT a new tax or an increase in taxes. The support from the PPEL has funded new transportation, updates in roofing, tuck pointing, fire alarm systems, security systems, updates to the auditorium, plus a lot more. More information will be shared in the September message. Having these funds available are important to maintaining a safe physical environment for our students. Mark your calendar to vote on September 12!
TLC—CCSD is beginning our 3rd year of the TLC (Teacher Leadership & Compensation) program. One goal of the program is aligned to “attracting and retaining effective teachers” in the field of education. The district made progress towards this goal by providing a minimum salary of $33,500, 100% of teachers new to the district participated in mentoring with a 92% retention rate for all teachers, and we employed 25% of our teachers in leadership positions.
