Public Participation at Board Meetings

Public Input at Meetings

 The board will set time aside for citizen participation at the beginning of the board meeting during the VISITOR agenda item.  Citizens wishing to address the board during the visitor agenda item must sign in on the visitor participation clipboard. This list of participants will be given to the board president, board secretary, or superintendent prior to the meeting.The board president will recognize those completing the signing in requirements for participation at the appropriate time on the agenda. When you address the board; stand, state your name, and the organization you represent if applicable.  Please remember: Iowa law prohibits board members from discussing a specific employee's or individual's performance at a public board meeting.The board has the discretion to limit the amount of time set aside for public participation.  During the public comment section, the board will listen carefully. The board does not normally respond to concerns or questions raised during the visitor agenda item, instead, may refer to the superintendent for research or place the item on a future board agenda.

 

Reminder: The orderly process of the board meeting shall not be interfered with or disrupted. Only those speakers recognized by the board president shall be allowed to speak. Comments by others are out of order. If disruptive, the individual making the comments or another individual causing disruption may be asked to leave.
