    3rd Grade Learns About Immigration!

One of the "big ideas" in the new standards for 3rd Grade Social Studies is Immigration and Migration.  Learning from real life experiences is a great way to learn and remember new content.  The Van Allen 3rd Graders got that opportunity.  Olga Wagner was invited by Mrs. Milledge, 3rd Grade Social Studies teacher, to be a guest speaker and share her experiences with the students.  Mrs. Wagner is an immigrant from Ukraine.  Her family migrated from New York to Washington and then to Iowa.  During the presentation, students were assessed on their listening skills.  Following the presentation, the students had to recall the main idea of Mrs. Wagner's story along with three supporting details.  Thank you Mrs. Wagner and Mrs. Milledge!
